Jean was at a conference with Health Corps folks and Project Zen.

Robert, the gardner, will be here in room 227 after 1230PM to speak to those who want to be involved with the gardens and recycling.

Jean and Jose spent this weekend visiting Landmark College. Their kinds of students are the ones we have and she is trying to make a connection with them for us and our students.

Chancellor's Office has initiated a new program: Respect For All for the week and beyond. Anna, Nicole, and Beth will be our liaisons for this. Topics include, Use of language, bullying, sexual harassment, sexual orientation, and more.

Ann spoke briefly about negotiations on our contract. We had a lively discussion of which was larger 2/3 or 3/4. Math department was mute.

Jim announced that we will see 100 new students in Feb.

Blue is recruiting for next cycle's bike class. It requires a full semester for 8th and PM class. It is a Health and Gym credit. See Blue in 202 during lunch.

Grab and Go breakfast and lunch is going well.

"New year, new you" consciousness will begin next week. Stay tuned.

Saturday Class 10-2. Breakfast, lunch, and metro cards will be available. Building open at 9:30 for teachers.

Boy's Basketball's last game is Friday.They are in first place and might play first championship game on Tues (stay tuned) and final on Thursday at St Joseph's College in Brooklyn.

Vacation School started with 21 and ended with 16. Jean will be in the library after school to help students finish their projects.

Saturday school starts this Saturday, 10-2.

A new PM school on Tues and Thur with Jean and Indra for students who need gym credits.

Last Boy's Basketball game tomorrow vs Cascades at 4:30. Championship round is around the corner.

Mock trial begins. Kyle and Jane are looking for kids with very, very good attendance.

Esther handed our senior information packets for family groups.

Jose reminded us about SAT and SAT prep classes.

H A P P Y _ H O L I D A Y S

We will start to get ourselves ready for the second semester now and in January.

We will prepare for our Quality review since we are in focused restructuring. In addition, we will have visits from the state and the city. The city visits will be to help intervene with the state. We have to be ready so everything goes correctly for the school.

We will concentrate on vertically aligning our curriculum. Currently our first level is regents prep while our second level is college readiness. For that second level see the research paper document.

We had a clarifying explanation of something about the NYCDOE and its interpretation of assessment and its interaction with the State. It is a secret and not too transparent for principals, so it is even less clear, like the Hudson for the rest of the employees.

Preliminary discussion about Vacation School which will be on Monday, Dec 28 and Tuesday, Dec 29. The .2 will be in Economics and English. If a math teacher is interested in helping, contact Jean. There is a refundable $5 registration fee.

New spinning students should see Indra today before joining Friday's class.

Teacher's Choice money is available. Use receipts from August. Any questions see Ann.

AM/PM went out yesterday.

Scholarship, scholarships, scholarships: Make it a Family Group activity. Have discussions with students about who claims them and will tax returns be released for scholarships. Give teachers a 2 week window to write the recommendation, NOT last minute.

We had a lengthy discussion about the Absence policy. 6 absences is the limit. 2 lunch makeups take care of one absence. Documented absences come only from the attendance office. How you deal with undocumented absences is a case by case discussion and practice. Bottom line is that we should have a discussion with our classes about our policy, especially since we have so many new students at this point.

Since we have many different copies of Microsoft Office on our computers, both Mac and Dell, see Ted during 5, 7, 8 in 227 for assistance or Camilla in 327 during lunch of her free periods.

Push PM school.

Expect new students next week since Oct 31 is the cut off date.

Welcome to Cycle 2.

Notice new offering for PM school: "Get ready for College Now." Candidates for the spring College Now program are best candidates and student s with 75 or better on English Regents. This cycle will be an English credit.

Lively discussion of budget was had. Be conservationists in all areas as our budget will be taking another big hit. Teacher's Choice money will be very important now.

Graduates need to be here until Nov 5, other wise they have not met their graduation requirements. They will be in Cyberschool 5-8 during that time to complete these obligations.

Ann is raising money for graduating seniors. She has a handsome calendar for $1 she is distributing, or she will simply accept a dollar for this cause.

Look at calendar often for school events.

Jean spoke about our Quality Review and specifically data collection and its use in informing our instruction. How are we using data to provide individual instruction for each student? How are we collecting it? Quantitative and Qualitative methods. Our challenge is how we document it and how it affects our thinking to set targets and goals. How are we doing this? Spend time considering this and be prepared to speak about your methods.

Miguel Montes and Tracy Hack, director of Frederick Douglass Community Center visited to speak about the services that the Children's Aid Society offer to the youth and especially the "Hope Leadership Academy" for young adults, 18-24. http://www.childrensaidsociety.org The center is located on 104th and Columbus. They are available to speak to our classes and Family Groups.

    Attendance folder (purple) in mail room has attendance for classes. Attendance will be picked up daily starting today for Family Group and for classes next Monday. Have it ready within first fifteen minutes of class.
