Essential Questions

What are the guitar notes to Use Somebody? What are the lead parts to Use Somebody? What are the vocal parts to Use Somebody? What is the drum part to Use Somebody? What is the keyboard part to Use Somebody? How will we perform this song for graduation?

Do Now:

Get out instruments. Make sure you are in tune and your instrument is at the proper volume. Make sure your mic is on and at a proper volume. Warm up.

DESCRIPTION/ACTIVITY

Activity 1

Rhythm guitar: C/G E/G F/C repeat A/E C/G F/C Repeat - Bridge - D/A F#/C# D/A F#/C# B/F# Memorize these notes. Listen to the song. Learn the rhythm.

Lead part: E/E then later E G C F C E F E D C repeat 4x

Vocal Part Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh (C G E C G E) and later second part in addition ah ah ah ah (E F E C) Memorize these notes. Listen to the song. Learn the rhythm.

Drums: Crash cymbal plays straight quarter notes in the choruses, hi hat plays eights in the verse, eights on the tom in the bridge. Bass drum plays on 1 and 4 then on 3 the next bar. Snare plays on & of 2, & of 1, and 4

Keys: Sustain G/D and vary the volume with the dynamics of the song. In the bridge change the notes to A/D then go back to G/D for the rest of the song.

CLOSING ASSESSMENT

Students perform piece to teacher at least five minutes before the end of period bell. Students will discuss the band's approach to each song. Students receive instructions on what to practice for the next band class. Note in roll book who is putting a good effort and who isn't and also who is getting the lesson and who isn't.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Extension activities are available for high skilled/motivated students. Verbally explicit instructions are given to ELL/Special Ed students. List of terms that may need defining are on the smartboard or the students' computer. Scaffolding activites are given for all musical terms.
